A vase is often chosen with flowers in mind. Yet in a considered interior, its role can extend far beyond holding a bouquet. Sculptural silhouettes, tactile ceramic surfaces, coloured glass, unusual handles and distinctive proportions can give a decorative vase enough presence to stand entirely on its own. Rather than treating it as an accessory waiting to be filled, it can be approached in much the same way as a small sculpture: an object selected for its form, material and relationship with the surrounding space.
